{"id":51,"date":"2011-08-09T15:03:29","date_gmt":"2011-08-09T22:03:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gis.qtools.com\/blog\/?page_id=51"},"modified":"2016-04-11T12:02:47","modified_gmt":"2016-04-11T19:02:47","slug":"part-3-populate-images-table","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/gis.qtools.com\/blog\/tutorials\/image-linking\/part-3-populate-images-table\/","title":{"rendered":"Part 3: Populate the Images Table"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Tutorial Navigation<\/strong> | Prior: <a href=\"..\/part-2-create-images-table\/\">Part 2: Create the Images Table<\/a> | Next: <a href=\"..\/part-4-link-images\/\">Part 4: Link the Images Table to Feature Class<\/a><\/p>\n<p>One way to populate the <em>Images<\/em> table with data and rasters is one-by-one within an edit session in ArcMap.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Start an edit session.<\/li>\n<li>Open the <em>Images<\/em> attribute table.<\/li>\n<li>A value must be placed in the Feature_ID field that matches a field value for the feature for which images will be linked (using a relate).<\/li>\n<li>To add the image to the field of type &lt;Raster&gt;, click in the cell and then click on the small button on the right edge; then right-click in the empty box and browse to the image file location.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/\/gis.qtools.com\/tutorials\/image_linking\/images\/Images_Edit_RasterAdd.png\" \/>      <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/\/gis.qtools.com\/tutorials\/image_linking\/images\/Images_Edit_RasterAdd2.png\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>While adding a raster, it is easy to copy-and-paste the file name into an <em>Image_Name<\/em> field for reference, as well as entering a description.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/gis.qtools.com\/tutorials\/image_linking\/images\/Images_Edit.png\" \/>        <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Any number records can be created that will link to a single feature, and they do not need to be entered in continuous order.<\/li>\n<li>Additional images can be added to the <em>Images<\/em> table and linked to new or existing features by entering the appropriate Feature_ID.<\/li>\n<li>Since the rasters are managed, they are stored in the <em>Images<\/em>\u009d table in the GDB, so the source rasters are no longer needed for the images to display properly.<\/li>\n<li>It should be possible to automate the building of the <em>Images<\/em> table using a script or Add-In.
